WHAT ARE THE ERRORS IN THE KING JAMES VERSION BIBLE?

WE ARE COMMANDED TO: 'PROVE ALL THINGS'

You have probably heard the joke about the Protestant fundamentalist who said, "If the King James Version was good enough for the apostles, it is good enough for me!" People sometimes forget that the KJV was published in 1611 A.D.

For centuries prior to 1611, Latin was the only scholarly language in Europe. The Latin Vulgate translation of Jerome, based upon a corrupt Alexandrian Text, was the official text of the powerful Roman Catholic Church.

Protestant translators sometimes did not have access to all of the Received Greek Official Text, and being familiar with the Vulgate, they sometimes put words into their translations based upon the Latin which were never there in the original Greek. Schaff points out that in about 80 places in the New Testament, the KJV adopts Latin readings not found in the Greek. Erasmus had a corrupt, incomplete text of Revelation to work from, and hence this book has many errors in the KJV.

The King James translators did a marvelous job with the materials they had. While this article is necessary to point out the KJV errors, it should be noted that the errors, omissions and additions made by other modern translations are much, much WORSE!

King James Version Bible (KJV) Translation Errors
Below is a partial listing of King James Version (KJV) Bible translation errors. The verse(s) in question are given first and then what is the correct or better translation.

Genesis 1:2
KJV Bible: "And the earth was without form, and void; . . . "

Better Translation: "And the earth became without form, and void; . . . "

Comments: The word translated "was" is hayah (Hebrew: ???, Strong's Concordance Number #H1961) and denotes a condition different than a former condition, as in Genesis 19:26.

Genesis 10:9
KJV Bible: " . . . Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD."

Better Translation: " . . . Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter in place of the LORD."

Comments: The word "before" is incorrect and gives the connotation that Nimrod was a good guy, which is false. Nimrod placed himself in OPPOSITION to God.

Leviticus 16:8, 10, 26
KJV Bible: "And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat. . . . But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness. . . . And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp."

Better Translation: "And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for Azazel. . . . But the goat on which the lot fell for Azazel shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement upon it and sent away into the wilderness for Azazel . . . And he that let go the goat for Azazel shall wash his clothes and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp." (Holy Bible in its Original Order Translation)

Comments: The meaning of the word scapegoat is different today than it was during the time of the King James translators. The Online Etymology Dictionary states concerning the word scapegoat and its original meaning that it is:

" . . . a mistranslation in Vulgate of Hebrew 'azazel (Leviticus 16:8,10,26), which was read as 'ez ozel or the "goat that departs," but is actually the proper name of a devil or demon in Jewish mythology . . . "

Today the word scapegoat has the connotation of someone who is UNJUSTLY blamed for the sins of others. The Azazel goat represents Satan, who is no scapegoat. He is guilty of his part in our sins.

Deuteronomy 24:1
KJV Bible: "When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house."

Better Translation: "When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some uncleanness in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house . . ."

Comments: As the Savior explained in Matthew 19, Moses did not command divorce. This statute is regulating the permission of divorce because of the HARDNESS of the people's hearts.

2Kings 2:23
KJV Bible: "And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head."

Better Translation: "And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth young men out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head."

Isaiah 65:17
KJV Bible: "For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind."

Better Translation: "For, behold, I am creating [am about to create] new heavens and new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Ezekiel 20:25
KJV Bible: "Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live; "

Better Translation: "Wherefore I permitted them, or gave them over to, false statutes that are not good, and judgments whereby they should not live."

Comments: God's laws are good, perfect and right. This verse shows that since Israel rejected God's laws, He allowed them to hurt themselves by following false man made customs and laws.

Daniel 8:14
KJV Bible: "And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed."

Better Translation: "And he said unto me, Unto two thousand, three hundred evenings and mornings; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed."

Malachi 4:6
KJV Bible: "And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

Better Translation: "And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with utter destruction."

Comments: The word curse doesn't give the proper sense here. The phrase should be translated as utter destruction as it is in Zechariah 14:11.

Matthew 5:48
KJV Bible: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

Better Translation: "Become ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

Comments: "Perfect" here means "spiritually mature."

Sanctification is a process of overcoming with the aid of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 24:22
KJV Bible: "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened."

Better Translation: "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved alive: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

Comments: This verse needs an additional word to clarify its meaning.

Matthew 27:49
KJV Bible: "The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him."

Better Translation: "The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. And another took a spear and pierced His side, and out came water and blood."

Comments: Matthew 27:49 omits text which was in the original.

The Moffatt translation correctly adds it, while the RSV puts it in a footnote: "And another took a spear and pierced His side, and out came water and blood." The Savior's death came when a soldier pierced His side, Revelation 1:7.

Matthew 28:1
KJV Bible: "In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre."

Better Translation: "Now late on Sabbath, as it was getting dusk toward the first day of the week came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre."

Comments: The Sabbath does not end at dawn but at dusk.

-ONE BIBLICAL DAY IS FROM  FROM SUNDOWN TO SUNDOWN; EVENING TO EVENING; CONTAINS THE NIGHT TIME PORTION FIRST (EVENING) AND THEN THE LIGHT TIME PORTION (MORNING)

Luke 2:14
KJV Bible: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. "

Better Translation: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men of God's good pleasure or choosing."

Comments: There will be peace on earth among men who have God's good will in their hearts.

Luke 14:26
KJV Bible: "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."

Better Translation: "If any man come to me, and love less by comparison his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."

Comments: This verse has the unfortunate translation of the Greek word miseo, Strong's Concordance Number #3404, as "hate", when it should be rendered "love less by comparison."

We are not to hate our parents and family!

John 1:17
KJV Bible: "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Better Translation: "For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."

Comments: This is another instance of a poor preposition. Moses did not proclaim his OWN law, but the law that GOD gave him to proclaim.

John 1:31, 33
KJV Bible: "And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water . . . And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost."

Better Translation: "And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing in water . . . And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost."

Comments: Pouring or sprinkling with water is not the scriptural method of baptism, but only thorough immersion in water.

John 13:2
KJV Bible: ". . . And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; "
Better Translation: " . . . And during supper, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; "

Comments: This verse is correctly translated in the New Revised Standard Version Bible Translation.

Acts 12:4
KJV Bible: "And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people."

Better Translation: "And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Passover to bring him forth to the people."

Comments: The Greek word pascha (Greek: ??????, Strong's Concordance Number #G3957) in this verse has been inaccurately translated as Easter. This word should be translated as Passover, which agrees with the translation of pascha as Passover as found in Matthew 26:2 and other verses.

1Corinthians 1:18

KJV Bible: "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."

Better Translation: "For the preaching of the cross is to them that are perishing foolishness; but unto us which are being saved it is the power of God."

Comments: Salvation is not a destination completely reached in this life. Believers must endure and remain faithful to God to the end of their lives before being fully saved. (See Matthew 24:13, Mark 13:13, 2Timothy 2:10, etc.)

1Corinthians 15:29
KJV Bible: "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?"

Better Translation: "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the hope of the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the hope of the dead?"

2Corinthians 6:2
KJV Bible: "(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) "

Better Translation: "(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in a day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) "

Comments: This verse in the New Testament is a quote from Isaiah 49:8 which writes about a day, NOT the day, of salvation. The day of salvation is not the same for each individual. The firstfruits have their day of salvation during this life. The rest of humanity will have their full chance at salvation in the second resurrection.

2Thessalonians 2:10
KJV Bible: "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. "

Better Translation: "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that are perishing; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. "

1Timothy 4:8
KJV Bible: "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. "

Better Translation: "For bodily exercise profiteth for a little time: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. "

1Timothy 6:10
KJV Bible: "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Better Translation: "For the love of money is a root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Hebrews 4:8-9
KJV Bible: "For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. "

Better Translation: "For if Joshua had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a keeping of a sabbath to the people of God."

Revelation 20:4-5
KJV Bible: "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection."

Better Translation: "And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection." (New King James Version Bible Translation)

Comments: The last part of verse five, which states "This is the first resurrection." can seem a bit confusing. This verse refers back to "they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years." found in verse 4.

Revelation 22:2
KJV Bible: "In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations."

Better Translation: "In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the health of the nations."

Which italicized words in the King James Bible are INCORRECT?

No language can be translated word for word into another language. Hebrew and Greek idioms often do not come through clearly into literal English. Thus, beginning in 1560 with the Geneva Bible, translators initiated the practice of ADDING italicized words they felt clarified and made it easier to understand what the original language was stating for a particular verse. The fifty-four King James translators did the same. Many times their added italicized words DO help make the meaning of a particular passage clearer. At other times, however, they erroneously added words based on their biases and misunderstandings of Biblical doctrine.

Matthew 24:24

KJV Bible: "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. "
Comments: This verse should NOT have the italicized words "it were." It IS possible for the elect to be deceived. We need to be on guard!

Luke 3:23-38
KJV Bible: "And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph . . ."

Comments: The italicized words "the son" are not in the original Greek. Actually, Luke gives the fleshly descent of the Savior through Mary, while Matthew gives the legal descent through Joseph.

John 8:28
KJV Bible: "Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things."

Comments: The "he" in italics was NOT spoken by Jesus. This added word completely obscures the fact that Jesus was claiming to be the great "I AM" of the Old Testament (Exodus 3:14, John 8:58).

Romans 1:7
KJV Bible: "To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. "

Comments: The italicized words "to be" were added in error. True Christians are NOW saints.

1Corinthians 7:19
KJV Bible: "Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. "

Comments: This verse actually NEEDS some italicized words to make the meaning clear, such as: "For circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, rather the important thing is the keeping of the commandments of God."

Colossians 2:16-17
KJV Bible: "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. "

Comments: These verses can only be properly understood if the italicized word "is" in verse 17 is left out. The message of these verses is to NOT let men judge you as doing wrong when you observe God's holy days, new moons and sabbaths; let the body of Christ (the Church) do the judging.

1Timothy 3:11
KJV Bible: "Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things."

Comments: The "their" is unwarranted and not implied in the original language.

2Peter 2:5
KJV Bible: "And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; "

Comments: This verse should not have "person, a" in it. Noah was the eighth preacher of righteousness.

1John 2:23
KJV Bible: "Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. "

Comments: The phrase in italics was added based upon the Latin text and is not in the original Greek language for the verse.

King James Version Bible Punctuation Errors

Luke 23:43
KJV Bible: "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."

Better Translation: "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee To day, shalt thou be with me in paradise."

Comments: This verse has been used by some to claim that Jesus went straight to heaven at His death. The original Greek did not have punctuation marks as we do today. The clarifying comma after "thee" should be moved to after the words "To day." The believing malefactor would be with Christ in the paradise of the redeemed when he was resurrected not right after his death but FAR INTO THE FUTURE as part of the second resurrection of the dead.

Mark 16:9
KJV Bible: "Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils."

Better Translation: "Now when Jesus was risen, early the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils."

Comments: There is a missing implied comma between "risen" and "early" and there should be no comma after the word "week." Jesus was NOT resurrected on a Sunday morning. Jesus died on a Wednesday and was resurrected Saturday evening, a FULL three days as was prophecied.

Erroneous Additions to the King James Version Bible

The following additions should be DELETED from the King James Version Bible. These additions were derived from the Latin Vulgate, a Roman Catholic Bible translation created by Jerome in 338 A.D. His translation was based on CORRUPTED Greek texts.

Matthew 27:35
Text to Remove: "that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots."

John 8:9-10
Text to Remove: "being convicted by their own conscience . . . unto the last . . . alone . . . and saw none but the woman . . . those thine accusers."

Comments: The correct translation of the verse, based on the Greek text, is:

"But when they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the eldest, and Jesus was left with the woman being before him.  Jesus lifted himself up and said to her, 'Woman, where are they?  Has no one condemned you?'"

Acts 9:5-6
Text to Remove: "it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him . . . ."

Acts 10:6
Text to Remove: "he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do"

Acts 10:21
Text to Remove: "which were sent unto him from Cornelius"

Acts 21:8
Text to Remove: "that were of Paul's company"

Romans 13:9
Text to Remove: "Thou shalt not bear false witness"

Romans 16:20
Text to Remove: "Amen"

Colossians 1:14

Hebrews 12:20
Text to Remove: "or with a dart shot through"

1John 2:23

1John 5:7-8
Text to Remove: "in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth,"

Comments: Most modern translations agree that this was an uninspired addition to the Latin Vulgate to support the unscriptural doctrine of the trinity.

Revelation 1:8
Text to Remove: "the beginning and the ending"

Revelation 1:11
Text to Remove: "I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and . . . which are in Asia"

Revelation 1:20
Text to Remove: "which thou sawest"

Revelation 2:17
Text to Remove: "to eat of"

Revelation 5:4

What verses are MISPLACED in the KJV Bible?
Matthew 23:13-14
Proper Order: "But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in."

Romans 16:25-27
Proper Order: Romans 16:25-27 belongs AFTER Romans 14:23 and not at the end of the book.

Hebrews 9:28
Proper Order: "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them without sin that look for him shall he appear the second time unto salvation."

The King James Version contains certain translation and textual errors which will facilitate a global transition from the true Gospel of Jesus Christ to the false gospel of the Antichrist.

It behooves Christians to undertake an objective evaluation of the KJV, as they should do with all translations in their language.

The fact that foreign language translations are now, for the most part, translated from the KJV rather than the Greek Textus Receptus, makes this equally relevant to non-English speaking Christians who use foreign translations.

Mistranslations of important words that will affect the interpretation of end-time prophecy.

All of these translation and textual errors predated the 1611 KJV and can be traced through successive English translations which, according to King James‘ instructions, were ?to be followed, and as little altered as the original will permit.? The mischief appears to have originated with the Wycliffe translation, although one major error was inserted in a later edition of the KJV. Whatever the various reasons for these mistranslations in the King James Version, they needed to be corrected and, in every case, the New King James Version made the necessary corrections.

The fact that a large network of KJV-Only defenders have made it their profession to misrepresent, not only these translation and textual errors, but hundreds of others, as accurate translations of the Greek Textus Receptus, while they tout the KJV as God‘s perfect Word and condemn the NKJV as a Satanic version, and allow no one to update or correct the KJV – not to mention their suppression of vital information (e.g. the Translators‘ Preface), their manipulation of textual data, their frequent misquoting of sources, their distortion of history and lies without end – in short, their thoroughly deceitful treatment of the Bible version issue, makes it difficult to resist the suspicion that King James Onlyism has a sinister interest in preserving these translation and textual errors in the Bible.

It must be emphasized that these mistranslations did not originate with the King James Version but in the Wycliffe translation, which was translated from the Latin Vulgate. Furthermore, the Wycliffe translation carried a greater number of these corruptions than the Vulgate which is not surprising considering the evidence that John Wycliffe and the Lollard Knights were agents of the Rosicrucians.

Rosicrucianism is the theology of a secret society of mystics, said to have been founded in late medieval Germany by Christian Rosenkreuz. It holds a doctrine "built on esoteric truths of the ancient past", which, "concealed from the average man, provide insight into nature, the physical universe and the spiritual realm."  It is symbolized by the Rosy Cross.

The rose cross (also called rosy cross and rose croix) is a symbol largely associated with the semi-mythical Christian Rosenkreuz, alchemist  and founder of the Rosicrucian Order.[1][2]  The Rose Cross is, as its name suggests, a cross with a white rose at its centre[3]  and symbolizes the teachings of a tradition formed within the Christian  tenets.

It has several meanings, depending on the source. Some groups, such as the Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, from a non-sectarian or non-religious view, suggest that the rosy cross predates Christianity, where "the cross represents the human body and the rose represents the individual's unfolding consciousness."

Rosicrucianism was associated with Protestantism  and in particular Lutheranism.[4]  According to historian David Stevenson, it was also influential to Freemasonry  as it was emerging in Scotland.[4]  In later centuries, many esoteric societies have claimed to derive their doctrines, in whole or in part, from the original Rosicrucians. Several modern societies, which date the beginning of the Order to earlier centuries, have been formed for the study of Rosicrucianism and allied subjects.

Each KJV error [below] is compared with the Greek Textus Receptus, readings in English translations before 1611, also the Latin Vulgate, the Syriac Peshitta and the Septuagint when applicable, and the NKJV.

Textual errors in the KJV are also included, that is instances where the KJV fails to translate a word that is in the Greek text, thereby giving opportunity for a false interpretation of the verse.

GREEK TEXTUS RECEPTUS

GOING THEREFORE DISCIPLE ALL THE NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM TO THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

?Ghost? is a mistranslation of the Greek word ?pneuma? which means breath or spirit. The KJV inconsistently translated the word pneuma as spirit or ghost, with 91 instances of Ghost or ghost referring to God. The word ?Ghost? with reference to God, which is used in all English Bibles predating the King James Version, can be traced to the Wycliffe translation (1395).

Although the Wycliffe Bible was translated from the Latin Vulgate, Jerome used the Latin term ?Spirtu Sancto? for the Holy Spirit and ?spiritum? for Jesus‘ spirit. Wycliffe did not actually translate the Bible that bears his name; it was translated by other Lollard scholars at Oxford University while Wycliffe led the Lollard movement politically.

These scholars would have been familiar with the famous Old English (Anglo-Saxon) epic poem Beowulf, which was based on a Germanic oral tradition; they would therefore have known that the Old English word gást and gaést from the Gothic word usgaisjan were used in the poem to describe monsters, i.e., dragons and devils.

The Wycliffe/Lollard translation of Eph. 6:17 is most inappropriate and disturbing: ?And take ye the helm of helthe, and the swerd of the Goost, that is, the word of God. That the Lollard scholars were ?knights? is evident in their use of the word ?knyyt? or ?knyytis? 92 times in their translation, e.g., 2 Tim. 2:3: ?Trauele thou as a good knyyt of Crist Jhesu.?

Application of the word ?Ghost? to God the Holy Spirit may qualify as blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. (Matt. 12:31) The word ?ghost? means ?spirit? in a demonic sense; it is the pagan term for the spirits of dead people who are believed to roam on earth. ?Ghost? is derived from the Old English word gæstan (?to frighten‘) and, apparently, from the Gothic word usgaisjan. It is a West Germanic word for a terrifying ?supernatural being.‘ Needless to say, the pagan connotation of the word ?ghost? (i.e., Halloween ghosts) makes it an inappropriate term to identify God.

This pagan usage may influence some unconverted persons to misunderstand the nature of God and to view Him as a Satanic being with evil intentions. In fact, Gnostic doctrine teaches that the God of the Bible is Satan, and that the true God is Lucifer.

KING JAMES

Does your King James Version Bible use words or wording that originated in pagan religions, especially in pagan sun worship such as: Amen, Bible, Christ, Church, Cross, Easter, Ghost, Glory, God, Holy, Jesus, Lord, and Testament?

AMEN

The Hebrew of the Old Testament reveals to us that the Scriptural Hebrew word (which means: so be it, or verily, or surely) is "Amein" and not "Amen." Likewise, the Greek equivalent in the Greek New Testament is pronounced: "Amein." The Egyptians, including the Alexandrians, had been worshiping, or been acquainted with, the head of the Egyptian pantheon, Amen-Ra, the great sun-deity, for more than one thousand years B.C. Before he was known as Amen-Ra, he was known as Amen among the Thebans.

According to Funk and Wagnall's Standard College Dictionary, AMEN was the god of life and procreation in Egyptian mythology, and later identified with the Sun-god as the supreme deity and called "Amen-Ra." Smith's Bible Dictionary and Egyptian Belief and Modern Thought agree.

Our Saviour Y'shua calls Himself "the Amein" in Revelation 3:14. One might ask: Have we been misled to invoke the name of the Egyptian sun-deity at the end of our prayers?

BIBLE

The term "Scripture (or Scriptures)" is used once in the Book of Daniel and fifty-four times in the New Testament. It refers to the whole book, which is commonly known as "the Bible." The parts of The Scripture, or individual books, are called "books" or "scrolls," which are biblos or biblion in Greek. These words do not refer to the complete writ, The Scriptures.

The word "Bible" for The Scriptures was first used about A.D. 400. The papyrus, on which all documents were written, was imported from Egypt through the Phoenician seaport Gebal, which the Greeks called Byblos or Byblus. This seaport was the home of the Phoenician Sun-deity. This city was founded by Baal Chronos and was the seat of Adonis and once contained a large temple of Adonis. The sun-god was associated with the "Lady of Biblos." Both the city of Byblos in Phoenicia and the city Byblis in Egypt were named after the female deity Byblis (also called Byble or Biblis). This deity was the grand-daughter of Apollo, the Greek sun-deity. Byblia was also a name for Venus, an astral goddess and a goddess of sensuality among the ancient Greeks.

CHRIST

The Greeks used both the word Messias (a transliteration) and Christos (a translation) for the Hebrew Mashiach (Anointed). The word Christos was far more acceptable to the pagans who were worshiping Chreston and Chrestos.

According to The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible, the word Christos was easily confused with the common Greek proper name Chrestos, meaning "good." According to a French theological dictionary, it is absolutely beyond doubt that Christus and Chrestus, and Christiani and Chrestiani were used indifferently by the profane and Christian authors of the first two centuries A.D. The word Christianos is a Latinism, being contributed neither by the Jews nor by the Christians themselves. The word was introduced from one of three origins: the Roman police, the Roman populace, or an unspecified pagan origin. Its infrequent use in the New Testament suggests a pagan origin.

According to Realencyclopaedie, the inscription Chrestos is to be seen on a Mithras relief in the Vatican. According to Christianity and Mythology, Osiris, the sun-deity of Egypt, was reverenced as Chrestos. In the Synagogue of the Marcionites on Mount Hermon, built in the third century A.D., the Messiah's title is spelled Chrestos. According to Tertullian and Lactantius, the common people usually called Christ Chrestos.

CHURCH

This is the word used in most English versions as a rendering of the Greek "ekklesia." The Greek word means "a calling out," "a meeting," or "a gathering." Ekklesia is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew qahal, which means an assembly or a congregation.

The origin of the word "church" is kuriakon or kyriakon in Greek. The meaning is a building (the house of Kurios, or Lord).

Dictionaries give the origin of "church" as the Anglo-Saxon root, circe. Circe was the goddess-daughter of Helios, the sun-deity. The word circe is related to "circus," "circle," "circuit," and "circulate."
Circe was originally a Greek goddess whose name was written and pronounced as Kirke. The word "church" is known in Scotland as kirk, in Germany as Kirche, and in Netherlands as kerk.

CROSS

The words "cross" and "crucify" are mistranslations, a "later rendering," of the Greek words stauros and stauroo. According to Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words, STAUROS denotes, primarily, an upright pole or stake. The shape of the two-beamed cross had its origin in ancient Chaldea and was used as the symbol of the god Tammuz. In the third century A.D., pagans were received into the apostate ecclesiastical system and were permitted largely to retain their pagan signs and symbols.

According to The Companion Bible, crosses were used as symbols of the Babylonian Sun-god. The evidence is complete; the Lord was put to death upon an upright stake, not on two pieces of timber placed at an angle.
According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, in the Egyptian churches the cross was a pagan symbol of life borrowed by the Christians and interpreted in the pagan manner.

According to Greek dictionaries and lexicons, the primary meaning of stauros is an upright pale, pole, or stake. The secondary meaning of "cross" is admitted to be a "later" rendering. In spite of the evidence, almost all common versions of the Scriptures persist with the Latin Vulgate's crux (meaning cross) as the rendering of the Greek stauros.

The most accepted reason for the "cross" being brought into Messianic worship is Constantine's famous vision of "the cross superimposed on the sun" in A.D. 312. What he saw is nowhere to be found in Scripture. Even after his so-called "conversion," his coins showed an even-armed cross as a symbol for the sun-god. Many scholars have doubted the "conversion" of Constantine because of the wicked deeds that he did afterwards.
After Constantine had the "vision of the cross," he promoted another variety of the cross, the Chi-Rho or Labarum. This has been explained as representing the first letters of the name Christos (CH and R, or, in Greek, X and P). The identical symbols were found as inscriptions on rock, dating from ca. 2500 B.C., being interpreted as "a combination of the two Sun-symbols." Another proof of its pagan origin is that the identical symbol was found on a coin of Ptolemeus III from 247-222 B.C.

According to An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols, the labarum was also an emblem of the Chaldean sky-god. Emperor Constantine adopted the labarum as the imperial ensign. According to Dictionary of Mythology Folklore and Symbols, the symbol was in use long before Christianity. Chi probably stood for Great Fire or Sun. Rho probably stood for Pater or Patah (Father). The word labarum yields "everlasting Father Sun."

EASTER

Pesach (Hebrew) in english is Passover, Easter is Ishtar, (Semiramis, widow of Nimrod, mother of Tammuz) the name of the bare breasted pegan fertility goddess of the east who came out of heaven in a giant egg, landing in the euphrates river at sunrise on the first Sunday after the veral equinox, busting out turning a bird into an egg laying rabbit. After that point in time the priest of Easter would sacrifice infants and then take the eggs of Easter and die them in the blood of the sacrificed infants. These eggs would hach on December 25th and that is where that pagan Holy Day comes from.

GHOST

The Greek word 'pneuma' by todays english standards should read spirit, as well with the Hebrew word 'ruwach' found in the original Hebrew version of Mathew, also means spirit, not ghost which is "the soul of man; a disembodied spirit." Our Heavenly Father certainly cannot be a ghost for He never had a body to be disembodied from. I can't speak for the King James per-Version crowd who say that he is dead by refering to Him as a ghost but He is very much alive in my life. Y'shua the Messiah certainly was not a ghost since that word was used prior to his birth in the King James per-Version at which time he did not have a body and to say that it was His ghost would to say that He had died previously, before comming in the flesh and that His ressurection was not His first.

GLORY

The Greek word doxa in the Greek translations of the Old Testament and of the New Testament is usually rendered "glory" in the English versions, a translation of the Latin gloria. The Hebrew word kabod is usually rendered "honour" when applied to man, but rendered "glory" when applied to our Heavenly Father. Doxa means opinion, estimation, esteem, and repute. Kabad means to be heavy or make weighty, and esteem in its figurative sense.

Funk and Wagnalls New Standard Dictionary of the English Language has these three definitions under "glory," as follows: (1) in religious symbolism, the complete representation of an emanation of light from the person of a sanctified being, consisting of the aureole and the nimbus; (2) the quality of being radiant; as the glory of the sun; (3) any ring of light; a halo. Neither the Hebrew words kabod and kabad nor the Greek words doxa and dokeo carry these meanings.

The Church identified Elohim with the sun-deity, which was the prevailing deity of the Roman emperors, the Roman capital, and the Roman Empire. Gloria, a Roman goddess, was personified on an icon as a woman whose upper body was almost naked, holding a circle on which are zodiac signs. In the dictionaries, encyclopedias, and ecclesiastical books are found many illustrations of our Saviour, the Virgin, and the saints, encircled with radiant circles or emanations of light around them. Instead of "glory," such words as "esteem," "high esteem," or "repute," which carries the meanings of the Hebrew and Greek words, can be used.

GOD

Gad is a Syrian or Canaanite deity of good luck or fortune. In Hebrew, it is written GD, but with Massoretic vowel-pointing, it gives us "Gad." Other Scriptural references to a similar deity, also written GD, have a vowel-pointing giving us "Gawd" or "God." Gad is identified with Jupiter, the Sky-deity or the Sun-deity.
The word "God (or god)" is a title, translating the Hebrew Elohim (or elohim), El (or el), and Eloah. However, it is often used as a substitute for the Tetragrammaton (YHVH).

According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, GOD is the common Teutonic word for a personal object of religious worship, applied to all the superhuman beings of the heathen mythologies. The word "god" on the conversion of the Teutonic races to Christianity was adopted as the name of the One Supreme Being. Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics and Webster's Twentieth Century Dictionary, Unabridged agree that the origin is Teutonic paganism.

In Indo-Germanic dictionaries, only one word resembles "god." It is ghodh and is pronounced the same. This word means union, also sexual union or mating. According to Luneburger Wörterbuch, the following are the same word: Gott, got, gode, gade, god and guth (gud).

HOLY

The Hebrew word kodesh and the equivalent Greek word hagios and their derivatives have been translated as holy, hallowed, or sanctified in older English versions, and in modern versions as sacred. Bible dictionaries state that the meaning of kodesh (as well as kadash) specifies "separation." Modern scholars use the words "set apart," "set-apart," and "apartness."

According to Dictionary of Mythology Folklore and Symbols, the following is stated about the word HOLY: In practically all languages, the word "holy" has been derived from the divinely honored sun. According to Encyclopedia of Religions, HOLI is the Great Hindu spring festival, held in honour of Krishna, as the spring sun-god. Strong's Concordance refers to "heile" (the sun's rays). This form is almost identical to the German and Dutch equivalent of the English "holy." The German and Dutch word is heilig, which is derived from Heil, the name of a Saxon idol.

JESUS

The original name of our Saviour was not Jesus or Iesous, but Y'shua. In our Saviour's word, His Father's Name was given to Him. The Father's Name is YaHuWaH.

Two factors contributed greatly to the substitution and the distortion of our Saviour's Name. The first was the superstitious teaching of the Jews that the Father's Name is not to be uttered and that the Name must be "disguised" outside of the temple of Jerusalem. The second factor was the strong anti-Judaism feeling that prevailed amongst the Gentiles. They wanted a saviour, but not a Jewish one.

According to Wörterbuch der Antike, the substitute name can be traced back to the Latin Iesus and the Greek Iesous. Then, it can be traced back to an adaptation of the name of the Greek healing goddess Ieso. The Greek-English Lexicon of Liddell and Scott, confirm this. To Greeks who venerated a healing goddess Ieso, a saviour Iesous must have been most acceptable, suggests a writer in Philologische Wochenschrift. In spite of attempts to justify the "translating" of the Father's Name and His Son's Name, it cannot be done. A person's name remains the same in all languages.

The father of the Greek goddess Ieso was Asclepius, the deity of healing. The father of Asclepius was Apollo, the great sun-deity. Thus, the name Iesous can be traced back to sun-worship. There is also a relationship to the Egyptian goddess Isis and her son Isu. According to Reallexikon der Agpyptischen Religionsgeschichte, the name of Isis appears in hieroglyphic inscriptions as ESU or ES. Isu and Esu sound exactly like "Jesu" that the Saviour is called in the translated Scriptures of many languages.

Esus was a Gallic deity comparable to the Scandanavian Odin. The Greek abbreviation for Iesous is IHS, which is found on many inscriptions made by the Church during the middle Ages. IHS was the mystery name of Bacchus (Tammuz), another sun-deity. These are a few examples only.

LORD

The title "lord" is applied to all heathen deities, if the word "god" is not used for them. In most cases "lord" and "god" are used interchangeably for pagan idols.

There was an Etruscan house deity whose name was Lar, which signified "Lord." It was also known as Larth, who later on became very popular in Rome and became known as Lares (plural) because as idol statues they were usually in pairs. The Greek equivalent of this name was Heros, which was another name for Zeus. A feminine form was known as Lara, who was the beloved of the god Mercury.
Lar and Larth mean Lord. The letters "th" and "d" were virtually interchangeably used, in various nations. It was also common to find "o" and "a" interchangeably used in Old and Middle English. The word "Lord" can also be traced back to Loride, a surname for the Teutonic god Thor, and to Lordo, another deity.
Instead of "Lord," the word "Master," an exact rendering of the Hebrew Adonai and the Greek Kurios, can be used.

TESTAMENT

One of the saddest mistakes of the King James Version is its use of the word "testament" instead of "covenant." According to the Companion Bible, the word "Testament" as a translation of the Greek word diatheke (which means covenant), has been nothing less than a great calamity; for, by its use, truth has been effectually veiled all through the centuries.
A covenant is a binding agreement between two parties; it is a two-party solemn agreement bound by oath. On the other hand, a testament is a written instrument by which someone has disposed of his estate.
This word "testament" as a description of our present spiritual realm is the heritage that we have inherited from Rome, for it has come our way, due to the use of the word "testament" in the Latin Vulgate. The word gives the wrong impression of "receiving only." It contributes to the erroneous teachings of "only believe," "grace only," "good works are unnecessary," "love only." The doctrine of "only believe" is the fruit of the work of the "spirit that works in the sons of disobedience," the spirit in the Man of Lawlessness who instituted this "no-law-religion," the Great Apostasy, the Mystery of Lawlessness.
